It’s been a dilemma for as long as I can remember: what do I want to be when I grow up? When I started applying for university, it became more prevalent than ever. I had so many unanswered questions: What is my passion? How can I get the most out of my education? What’s going to make me HAPPY? And finally, after a few long months I’ve found the answer; it’s engineering! I never imagined myself taking this route; heck, I came here in September thinking I wanted to be a doctor! But after about a month of attending classes here at MUN I realized that medicine wasn’t exactly my calling (let’s just say that Biology wasn’t quite as glamorous as I’d originally thought). I spent the rest of the fall semester, and most of the winter semester simply trying to figure out which subjects I enjoyed, and which careers they applied to. It soon became clear that I was a whiz in both Chemistry and Math, and so tho se were what I focused on. With some help from my mom (one of my biggest role models and motivators) I stumbled into the world of Process Engineering. It seemed almost too good to be true! Not only could I put my Math and Chemistry skills to good use in this field, I could also study it right here at MUN, and I could contribute to a better future. After doing some further research, and attending an Engineering Open House, I made my decision; Process Engineering was for me. A few meetings and applications later, and I was registering for the first year Engineering courses I’d missed to be taken over the Summer. Thankfully, with my first year in Science, I’d already had most of the courses needed to start Term Three this coming fall, and was only five courses short. So here I am, writing up a blog post in between studying for two upcoming tests! I already love Engineering, and I know, deep in my gut, that this was the right choice. I can’t wait to see w here this decision will take me, but I’m sure that no matter what, it’s going to be one crazy ride!
