#2018SLSquad has started to arrived!! Dal, UOttawa and USask make their picks!!
Six of our 50 2018 Schulich Leaders have been confirmed.
Joining the Dalhousie squad is science student Anna Minarik. Anna will be graduating from Archbishop MacDonald High School in Edmonton, AB this spring. She is an avid supporter of Canadian Blood Services, where she was recognized for being the most efficient blood and stem cell donor recruiter in September 2017. Central Kings Rural High School's Kayla Thomson, currently based in Kentville, NS, will be joining Anna to respresent Dalhousie this year as their engineering recipient. Kayla was a recipient of an award from the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, which is awarded annually to the student with the highest combined grade 11 math and science grades.
The first of UOttawa's two Schulich Leaders is Roslin Chen. The Sir Winston Churchill S.S. grad from St. Catharine's, ON plans to study science. Roslin was recently part of a research group at Brock University Science Mentorship Program, focussing on environmental changes of a lake in Massachusetts over the course of 12000 years. Joining her is engineering student Angelica Paynter, who hails from North Grenville District High School in Kemptville, ON. She was a previous winner of the Canada Cord Girl Guides of Canada award for her outstanding leadership.
Rounding out this first batch of 2018 Schulich Leaders are the USask students. Vaidehee Lanke from Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon, SK is going into science. In 2017 she co-founded Saskatoon's first Speakers Bureau, a program for youth to create gender equality solutions. Joel Pollak from Blyth Academy in Waterloo, ON is going into engineering there this Fall. He was previously a Finalist for the Prime Minister's Youth Council, an advisory board created by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2016. This isn't the first time Aden Bowman Collegiate has produced a winner. Alana Krug-MacLeod won this award at uSask in 2016. The other five recipients are from high schools producing Schulich Leaders for the first time!
